"Each year, I marvel over the growth of each player that happens throughout the season not just as a player, but as a leader, a teammate and in volleyball IQ. I am looking forward to seeing what this year brings! "
This will be Coach Katie's third season as head coach for Metro East's 12U team and fourth season over all. By setting high, attainable goals for the girls and promoting a supportive and encouraging environment for these players, her team finished their abbreviated 2019-2020 season stepping into their stride. They proudly won their first silver medal which was quickly topped by winning gold at the next tournament where they only dropped one set the whole day. The focus on fundamentals alongside helping the players build their confidence to go for the 'big plays' led to a successful season even with it being virtual for the last 3 months.
Katie began her volleyball career with MVSA where she competed 2 consecutive years at the Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah and Atlanta, Georgia. Following high school, she played all four years at Gettysburg College where she was team captain and earned first team all conference accolades as a libero. She studied Chemistry with a minor in Spanish. Following her time at Gettysburg, Katie earned her Masters Degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Maryland. Katie currently resides in DC where she works in clinical research.
